Space Odyssey:
EV3 Robotics &
Game
Coding
9 am - 3:30 pm
From blast-off to Mars exploration, build and program robots using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS set.
We'll focus on how robotics can assist space missions. You'll learn how to program motors and sensors to successfully complete tasks from launch control, to Mars rover and Space station missions.
Design attachments to your bots to collect energy resources, transport astronauts, fire "lasers" and more! Coding is simple with code blocks, and you'll learn how to use loops and conditional switches to get the results you want. This class provides a "lite" FLL (First LEGO League) experience which teaches problem-solving, engineering design, and programming. Each student has their own robotics kit and laptop.
Projects & Learning:
Day 1: Create launch thrust for escape velocity. Create and modify a launch system and design an ideal "capsule" to travel max distance.
Day 2: Robot rovers. Navigate with sensors.
Day 3: Robot work. Use distance, sonar and line sensors to detect resources as well as astronauts in distress. Design arms to grasp and release.
Day 4: Robot detection. Use color sensors to detect valuable and dangerous items.
Day 5: Defense systems. Design a system to detect and redirect oncoming "asteroids."
We'll also have fun designing challenging space-themed games with Scratch, from piloting a spacecraft to fighting off waves of aliens! Games will include gravity simulation, AR (Augmented Reality), collision detection, variables, conditionals, and more. Take your custom games home to share with others.
Be sure to bring lunch, snacks and beverage daily.
