Camp Instructors

TechKnowHow summer computer camp instructors Legos and Game Design

Our instructors are selected based on their interest and ability in teaching technology to students in an exciting and interesting way. Each are trained in teaching specific lessons involving the software and technology products in the courses.

At TechKnowHow, teachers work in teams of two. A typical class of 20 students has two TechKnowHow instructors. A typical teaching team might consist of a schoolteacher and a college student with an education or computer science major. Often, the instructors may be accompanied by an assistant, usually, a high school student who has taken a class in a previous year.

Many of our instructors teach classes for us in our year-round Saturday Workshop programs or have taught classes in previous summers. Others are involved in university programs, pursuing degrees in education or educational technology. Some instructors have their own technology-based businesses or are current or retired school teachers.

Although instructors have varied backgrounds, all share an interest and ability in teaching technology skills to students.

Here are some instructors who composed the teaching staff at Techknowhow for the Summer of 2007:

Sue has been with Techknowhow for seven years. In addition to working for Techknowhow, she is a Certified Multimedia Specialist and the founder of Mofsie Design, a web design and marketing firm located in San Mateo.
"I realize the importance of getting your child involved in one or more activities that interest them - activities in which they can grow and express their individuality without feeling peer pressure. TechKnowHow classes offer students a safe environment to release their creativity and to learn high-end technical skills. All the classes at TechKnowHow are designed to help students develop skills that will be needed in both their academic and social lives."

Jeff has been an instructor at TechKnowHow for three years he is currently in his fourth year at UC Santa Cruz studying Computer Science and Game Design. He enjoys working with computers and sharing his knowledge with children. "I've loved creating games for as long as I can remember. It is a pleasure to be able to help kids explore computers and game design. I hope to instill in them the same love for computers that I have."

Vicki has been an instructor at TechKnowHow for three years, and she works full-time as a kindergarten teacher in San Jose during the school year. "Teaching and working with children is a passion of mine, and TechKnowHow is a wonderful camp to attend if you have a creative mind. I enjoy working with children and seeing their imagination come to life. It is amazing how creative students can get with their LEGO projects, and that is what makes each day at camp memorable."

Paul has been an instructor at TechKnowHow for three years, he is currently attending the full time graduate program at Notre Dame de Namur University. "I enjoy interacting with the students. It's rewarding seeing the look on their faces when they have accomplished something they have never done before. The classes offered at TechKnowHow will have a longtime benefit to the students taking them. The lessons are designed to help increase a student's problem solving skills. This is a skill that is much needed later in their school years and in life. They also develop social skills by interacting with other students."

Harvey has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and over twenty years experience in the high-tech industry. He has been an instructor at TechKnowHow for three years, and he is currently pursuing his teaching credential in mathematics. Harvey teaches a number of our Game Design courses. “I enjoy computers, love to play games, and delight in working with children. It’s a close call between who has more fun: the children or me.”

Meghan has a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and has just received her teaching credentials in elementary and special education from San Francisco State. "I love introducing children to new ideas and encouraging them to explore. It's exciting to see them discover something new."
