Explore the world of robots using LEGO®’s new NXT line. Build robots with motors and sensors to explore the environment and perform tasks. You’ll create an explorer bot to maneuver around obstacles, a robot arm which picks up objects, a snake robot which rattles and strikes, and a robot batter that hits your pitches! Test out your robots through activities and interaction with other students in the class.
You’ll also learn how to program your bots by using software in which you place icons in sequence to create the instructions that you desire. It’s easy to learn, and teaches about loops and conditional statements which is an important foundation for understanding the concept of programming.
Students take home a CD containing videos of several of their robots in action , but not the robots themselves.
Note that NXT Robotics is a half-day class. If you wish to take this class as part of an all-day camp, please sign up for the camp entitled NXT Robotics/3d Movie-Making.
