Green Machines: Hands-on Projects Using Alternative Energy
Explore where technology is heading as you build and operate alternative energy machines and vehicles.
This class is heavily into hands-on learning through projects and experimentation with alternative energy sources.
Create a solar car with LEGO elements, expose it to the sun, and watch it go! Construct an amusement park ride powered by wind converted to electricity. Design a maglev (magnetic levitation) vehicle that hovers above a test track, and build an electric motor car. Understand how nuclear fission works through computer game play, and then manage a nuclear reactor in a simulation game.
You will come away with an appreciation for how alternative energy systems work through fun and memorable projects.
Students take home a CD containing videos of several of their green machines in action, but not the machines or pieces themselves.
Note: Green Machines is a half-day class. If you wish to take this class as part of an all-day camp, please sign up for the camp entitled NXT Robotics/Green Machines.
