SELECTING A
GAME DESIGN CLASS

We offer three Game Design courses for students, ages 10-14. Below is information which explains the class differences to better help you select a class for your son or daughter.

Game Design: Action Maze and Scrolling Screen Games (Ages 10-14)

This class introduces students to making their own computer games. Instructors lead lessons which teach the most commonly used game actions and events, including throwing objects, sprite design and editing, background music and sound effects, score-keeping, and use of variables.

Game Design: Platform and 3d First-Person Games (Ages 10-14)

Prerequisite: Any other TechKnowHow Game Design course or Age 11-14

Students create two games, different from the types of games covered in the other classes. The instructors lead lessons which cover basic game elements as well as intermediate topics – such as using code to generate 3d visuals and gameplay, using mouse movements and buttons to navigate and throw, and designing score and game information displays. Students work on a 3d game which gives a rich, realistic visual effect. Students will import code (variation of Java) to create game control and special visual effects.

Game Design: Two-Player and 3d Racing Games (Ages 10-14)

Prerequisite: Any other TechKnowHow Game Design course or Age 11-14

Students create two games, different from the types of games covered in the other classes. The instructors lead lessons which will cover all basic game elements, plus more advanced topics, such as in-game maps, split-screen play, 3d imagery, power-ups, and special effects. Students will import code (variation of Java) to create 3d imagery and game play..
