Prerequisite: TechKnowHow Game Design Class or Age 11+

Design two 3D computer games in modern first-person and third-person styles while learning about all aspects of game design – from creating 3D models, to designing realistic backgrounds, and creating game action. Each game will feature a 3D environment where the player must navigate through obstacles and enemies to collect supplies. Learn how to construct and import 3D models, create detailed backgrounds, use scripts to power game action, add music and sound effects, and more!

Take home your games to play on a Windows-based PC. Fee includes registered full version of the software. (These 3D games requires a computer with a 3d video card and at least 16MB of video memory.)

Note: There is a $15 materials fee for this course. This enables students to take home a registered professional version of the game design software so that they can continue to make games on a Windows-platform computer at home.

Focus on Empowering Students: Each camp is a hands-on opportunity for students to design and complete two computer games. Students experience the full process of creating a game from beginning to completion, and take home their work as well as software to continue making games at home.

Focus on Creativity: Students create their own look, flow, and complexity for their games. Each game project is open-ended versus pre-packaged – students have control over the gameplay, visual elements, settings, and incorporation of music and sound effects.

Powerful Software: The software used in these classes is robust enough that it is used in many college-level introductory game design courses, yet it is consistently mastered by students, ages 10-14, in our program.

Resources for Continuing Education at Home: Students take home a professional, full-features version of GameMaker software, as well as class lessons, and a library of graphics and music files for use in creating games at home.

Knowlegeable Instructors: Instructors lead the class through sequential lessons to complete a game. Instructors discuss game design concepts, answer questions and assist students in troubleshooting their work throughout the course.

Use of Programming Logic and Structure: Students learn how to create a logical sequence of actions for game events and actions. This includes an introduction to using variables, code blocks and conditional instructions (if/then logic).

A Great Value: We combine our strong curriculum, fun and empowering teaching method, knowledgeable instructors, and software and resources to take home, to make our game design classes a unique and tremendous value for those interested in creating computer games.
