Girls STEAM Tech Camp 2 - Ages 10 - 14
9 am - 3:30 pm

This is a 2017 summer camp.
2018 summer camps will be updated in January 2018.

We've created a workshop environment where girls can come explore, tinker, dream, and create in a place of their own. Led by female instructors, girls in this Tech Camp will build robots, design art and create games through programming, and make electronic crafts.

Girls will create MINDSTORMS® robots that address relevant, real world challenges. They will learn how to build with motors and sensors, and program with icon-based LabView software.

In the afternoon, it's on to programming where we will introduce the girls to Python' in a fun, understandable, step-by-step way. We'll learn the fundamentals of coding to create interactive and graphical programs with loops, conditionals, and arrays.

No prior programming experience is required, but comfort and familiarity with typing is suggested. Each student will have a laptop to use, and will bring home their project files to be played on a computer using any major operating system.

We'll finish the week building circuits with Tenka Lab's Circuit Cubes. Girls will be able to take home their DIY circuit craft project which will use LEDs and craft supplies.

With a strong focus on collaborative learning and creative exploration, Tech Camp for Girls is a class that endeavors to spark a new love for S.T.E.M. disciplines or simply provide a supportive community for young female inventors, engineers, scientists, and world-changers.

  • 10:20-10:40 Outdoor recess (campers bring snacks)
  • 10:40-12:00 Continue working on morning projects
  • 12:00-12:30 Supervised lunch break (campers bring lunch)
  • 12:30-2:10 Coding Projects with Python®
  • 2:10-2:30 Outdoor recess (campers bring snacks)
  • 2:30-3:15 Continue game development + morning project (time permitting)
  • 3:15-3:30 Clean-up & review

Take Homes
Students take home a home a USB flash drive containing their game and coding projects, plus class lessons and resources to use in future projects. (Note that students do not take home the robot building projects nor pieces from the class.)
