Girls STEAM Tech Camp 2 - Ages 10 - 14

All New Projects for 2018!

9 am - 3:30 pm

We've created a workshop environment where girls can come explore, tinker, dream, and create in a place of their own. Led by female instructors, girls in this Tech Camp will build robots, design art and games through programming, and make electronic crafts.

Girls will create MINDSTORMS® robots that address relevant, real world challenges. They will learn how to build with motors and sensors, and program with icon-based LabView software.

In the afternoon, it's on to programming where we introduce computer science in a fun, understandable, step-by-step way. We'll use the Java-based Processing® language which is used at high schools to teach the fundamentals of programming. Processing is built on Java, has almost the identical language syntax, but adds custom features related to graphics and interactivity. This makes Processing unique (and awesome) in that it allows users the chance to create games, art, and animations relatively quickly with code.

After we create art and games, we'll learn to program digital devices with Processing and an Arduino® circuit board. We'll make and control a doorbell, LED-blinking game, light switch and even a simple music maker.

We'll finish the week learning about circuits. Girls will be able to take home a DIY circuit craft project which will use LEDs and craft supplies.

No prior programming experience is required, but comfort and familiarity with typing is suggested. Each student will have a laptop to use, and will bring home their project files to be played on a computer using any major operating system.

With a strong focus on collaborative learning and creative exploration, Tech Camp for Girls is a class that endeavors to spark a new love for S.T.E.M. disciplines or simply provide a supportive community for young female inventors, engineers, scientists, and world-changers.
